CEO and President
Bashar Qasem is the founder and CEO of Azzad Asset Management. Mr. Qasem is one of the leaders and foremost experts on halal investing in the United States. Coverage of him and Azzad has appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Reuters, the Chicago Tribune, CBS News, Voice of America, and many others. Mr. Qasem holds the designation of the Certified Shari’ah Auditor and Adviser (CSAA) from the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) in Bahrain and holds investment advisory license series 65. Mr. Qasem has served as the Azzad Funds chairman since their inception.
Mr. Qasem is a shareholder and investor in many of Azzad’s investment portfolios, including the Azzad Mutual Funds. He enjoys reading, cooking and spending time with his family.

Financial Planner, CFP®
Fatima Iqbal is an investment advisor and senior financial planner with Azzad Asset Management. She graduated from Cornell University with a degree in applied economics and management and earned a master’s in finance from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and has extensive training on issues pertaining to halal investing and Islamic inheritance and estate planning. She specializes in planned charitable giving that incorporates traditional Islamic charitable concepts in modern America.
Fatima’s training in both Islamic finance as well as complex financial planning strategies make her a unique advisor. She works with affluent American Muslim families, small businesses, and community organizations to help them achieve their financial goals as they stay in line with cherished Islamic principles. Fatima provides comprehensive financial planning services including retirement, college, and estate planning. She is also a published writer and frequent speaker at conferences and seminars in the United States and abroad. She has presented at national conferences, including annual events sponsored by the Islamic Society of North America, the Islamic Circle of North America, and the Islamic Medical Association of North America. She has been interviewed as a subject matter expert by such media outlets as the Associated Press and The Wall Street Journal.
Fatima lives in the suburbs of Chicago with her husband and children. Besides her work as an advisor, she serves as a director of the Diwan Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to supporting and improving Muslim life at Cornell University.

Ayman Khalil is an investment advisor with Azzad Asset Management. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from Linkoping University, Sweden, and the State University of New York, Albany, NY. He holds a master’s degree from Purdue University. Prior to joining Azzad, he was a registered investment advisor for First Investors.
Ayman enjoys helping clients plan for their goals and following up with them at every stage in their lives.

Ehab Alalfey is an investment advisor with Azzad Asset Management. His goal is to help his clients through each stage of their financial lives by providing sound advice and clear communication and by building lasting relationships. Ehab began his financial services career in 2005 with Ameriprise Financial, where he served as a paraplanner and an associate financial advisor. He spent six years with the firm before joining Wagener-Lee, LLC in 2012 as a financial adviser under the broker-dealer Raymond James.
A graduate of the University of Maryland, Ehab earned a Bachelor of Science in international business from the Robert H. Smith School of Business. He was born in Maryland and currently resides in Gaithersburg with his wife, Dena. In his free time, he enjoys fishing and gathering with family and friends.

Client Service Associate
Ramzey Adel is a client service associate at Azzad Asset Management. He provides support to clients including preparing materials for clients’ meetings with their financial advisor, following up after advisor meetings, responding to client inquiries, and maintaining day-to-day operations. Ramzey has previously worked in the investment management industry and has the goal of becoming an investment advisor in the near future.
He has a bachelor’s degree in international business from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. In his free time he enjoys both playing and watching sports, as well as hanging out with friends and family.
Portfolio Management and Risk Analysis
Vice President and Portfolio Manager
Jamal Elbarmil has served as the vice president of Azzad Asset Management since 2000 and as portfolio manager for the Azzad Funds since 2008. He is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Azzad Funds’ portfolios aided by a team of equity analysts. He holds a master’s degree in information systems from American University in Washington, DC.
Mr. Elbarmil is a shareholder and investor in many of Azzad’s investment portfolios including the Azzad Mutual Funds.

Operations and Compliance
Qualified Plan Financial Consultant
Maha is a Qualified Plan Financial Consultant with Azzad Asset Management. She works primarily with plan sponsors (employers) and participants servicing a full range of small business retirement plans. She also serves as liaison between plan sponsors and their third party administrators, actuaries and tax professionals. Maha graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Finance from George Mason University and currently holds ASPPA’s Retirement Plan Fundamentals Certificate Part 1 and is pursuing her Certificate Part 2. She brings more than a decade of experience having held positions at Medstar’s Georgetown University Hospital and Wells Fargo Bank.
Besides spoiling her dozen or so nieces and nephews, Maha enjoys baking, taking care of her pet birds, long walks in the woods, traveling to France and meditating. She strives to live her life according to Rumi’s quote, “Come, seek, for search is the foundation of fortune: every success depends upon focusing the heart.”
Chief Compliance Officer
Manal Fouz serves as the Chief Compliance Officer. She has her bachelor’s degree in communications specialized in journalism from George Mason University, 1996. She has served as Operations Manager for Azzad since 2003 and Chief Compliance Officer since 2007. She has attended and completed numerous compliance training seminars and conferences hosted by the SEC, Investment Company Institute (ICI) and others. Ms. Fouz is a member of the NSCP (National Society of Compliance Professionals).
Ms. Fouz is a shareholder and investor in many of Azzad’s investment portfolios including the Azzad Mutual Funds. She enjoys running for charitable causes, traveling around the world and spending time with her family.

Marketing, Communications, and Shareholder Advocacy
Joshua Brockwell, CSRICTM
Investment Communications Director
Joshua Brockwell is the Director of Investment Communications at Azzad. He manages client-facing communications for the Azzad Funds and the Azzad Ethical Wrap Program. He has more than a decade of experience in the financial services field, including positions with T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. and the boutique cooperative mutual fund company, Homestead Funds.
Mr. Brockwell holds bachelor’s degrees in French and International Relations from Centre College where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He holds an MBA from the University of Maryland (UMUC). As a Fulbright Fellowship recipient in 2002, Mr. Brockwell taught marketing to business students in Dijon, France.
Senior Marketing Specialist
Amina does marketing and shareholder advocacy for Azzad Asset Management. With a background in civil rights advocacy, she has a special appreciation for Azzad’s focus on promoting social and economic justice through investing. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, and brings experience in PR, media relations, and community outreach.
Amina likes pick-your-own orchards, mountains, reading, and researching health and nutrition topics. She dislikes clichés and long walks on the beach. Short walks on the beach are OK.
